WESTPORT, CONNECTICUT
Westport is a medium sized town on the coast of Long Island Sound, located in Fairfield County, Connecticut about 55 miles from the Twin Towers. The town’s racial makeup is mainly Caucasians and most households are either families or married couples. With the median age of residents at 45 years, Westport is considered one of the most affluent towns in the nation. In 2001, Westport, had a population of approximately 25,000 and the First Selectwoman was Diane Farrell. After the attacks, the community had multiple candlelight vigils, school concerts dedicated to the victims, and an entire memorial was built nearby at Sherwood Island State Park to honor of the victims of 9/11 from Connecticut.
